The Future Of Fashion Is Sustainable
The Future of Fashion is Sustainable is a project created using the cyanotype printing method. Using second hand clothing sourced from charity shops, I have reworked 7 pieces of clothing to promote sustainability and eco friendly fashion. I collaborated with 7 different people based all over the UK and France, who work in the sustainable fashion industry. Each of them promote slow fashion and the future of fashion being sustainable by the different job roles they have. Featuring from left to right; @byeleanorpipe, @ehopmarketplace, @kairads, @halimafndl, @noughtclothing, @sourtai, @emptybrains_. Due to covid, many of the portraits where shot via a zoom call. Using fabric from my old childhood curtains, I then printed the portraits using cyanotype chemicals and a UV exposure unit and then sewed the portraits onto the clothing; reworking the clothes for a new purpose. I have also created a zine called ‘The Future of Fashion is Sustainable’ which includes interviews and images of the reworked cyanotype printed clothing. The zine will be available to purchase at the end of May as I am still just perfecting it until it gets sent off to the printers. Each piece of clothing has been carefully selected for each individual portrait which has been printed on it. I purposely chose white clothing so that the deep cyan prints look well contrasted onto the white material. Each clothing is different and there’s a range from tops, trousers, a tote bag and a blazer to create a collection rather than all the items of clothing being the same. I have also worked with different materials; linen, denim cotton ect so that my collection has range and each piece is different.
